[When they first met, Alexei would address Bucky as "Mr. Soldier". Those days are long gone now. He understands. Just as Yelena isn't one of the Red Room's assassins anymore, Bucky Barnes isn't a HYDRA assassin. He's just a man trying to do good, as the entire team is. That Winter Soldier title is gone, along with any variation of it.]
Bucky! You are getting started on the exercise without me? Or are you just trying to show off?
[Alexei rarely ever does a warm up. He was ready to jump into a good spar without any kind of pre-exercise whatsoever. Still, the invitation is out there and any good teammate would accept. ... He thinks. He's still new to being on a team. It's an educated guess.]
Alright. I will. [He steps over to the treadmill and onto it. Still, instead of starting it, he just stares down at all the settings for a second.] ... Bah, so complicated. This is why I prefer running through streets. I do not need machine to help.
[Bucky doesn't need the warmup. But he likes pretending like he's semi-normal sometimes. On occasion. His lips quirk upwards in a smile at the complaint, though. Bucky's definitely the older of the two of him, but he loves technology. Always has, long before he was even the Winter Soldier.]
Well I can show you how to use it. Might impress Yelena to know you know how to work it.
[His first instinct is to turn the offer down, but then Bucky offers the magic words. It might impress Yelena? Might impress people in general? Knowing how to work these things is impressive? (The context, of course, is that it'd be impressive for someone like him to know, but he doesn't hear it that way.)]
Oh... You think so? Well, maybe just the basics then. Because I think once I know the basics, I can figure the rest out on my own.
[Less because of that personally, but Bucky knows how people tick. They think people who are Alexei's age are dumb, incapable of learning. He knows that's not the truth by any means, but he's happy to help shatter other people's preconceived notions.]
Sure. [He walks him through the basics -- how to make the treadmill run, and how to adjust the speed. He'll leave him to experiment with the rest.]
Oh, going outside in snow is not bad. It is the running in snow that is the worst. Better not to try.
[Has he slipped while running through snow back in Russia? ...Yes. Many times. He doesn't bruise as easy as he did before he got the serum, but falling on his tailbone or elbows still hurts.]
